Goh’s Magikarp is consider a Totem Pokémon by Alola Standards. Animators seriously Ash was able to fish both Magikarp and Goldeen. Also noted Ash caught a Seaking during Johto in Lake Competition nobody remembers cause the episode focused on Misty’s Poliwhirl.

He has that giant Golurk too! My guy Go has a pokeball that is considered an masterball my guy... That pokeball luck doesnt exist on games xD

I think I understand what the whole premise of this series. The creators have decided that they have reached a point where they have to show Satoshi doing something in his road to become a Pokemon master other than simply going on adventures in different regions and winning there.

But to become a PokeMaster, he needs to be strong in all regions and not just one. That means visiting each region and showing Satoshi to be multi-regional.

In same sense because it's Ash journeys exploring the regions once again as he readies himself for the title fight, they didnt want Satoshi's companions to have complex storylines of their own, because the target is set and they dont want to go astray even a bit. And thus came Goh a simple character who can be with Satoshi throughout have a simple goal of his own as he goes around collecting pokemons giving Ash a chance to travel to all known regions.

This also mean that not giving footage to Goh fighting and defeating pokemons to get them, leading to Goh being the only character in whole series who can catch pokemons by just flinging his monster ball.

Pokemon Journeys is also a soft reboot/continuation hybrid. Creators no doubt wanted the return viewers to see the old pokemons and characters and events to become nostalgic. While also ensuring that new watchers dont become disheartened as to having to watch the previous 900 episodes. So Ash keeps quiet or has a small curiousity when meeting pokemons he should have all knowledge on, while viewers also get to know them anew.

Heard some people are feeling meh on this season for Pokémon

Conflicted if sabotaging your competitors within an evil organisation to get to the top yourself is chaotic good or chaotic evil.

Musashi and Kojiro would probably be really OP characters within the pokeverse if they weren't doomed to fail just because they're the main villains. Imagine if they would be undercover agents and sabotaging TR from inside or something. I really feel sorry for them to be raised in such a toxic environment doing everything they can just to be recognised by the one who saved them from the streets, just to be used like disposable tools, but they're so worthless, just leaving them with an occasional check up if they're still alive suffices because they're not worth the effort to dispose them. I think they'd be more an asset if they just... caught wild pokemon like Goh instead of trying to steal them lol. (Also, they're supposed to be 17ish y.o. so that makes their situation actually messed up.)

I think in some episode, it said that the Rocket trio had a good standing and mission record before they met Ash and Pikachu. Pikachu was a rare pokemon who was much much stronger than a Pikachu should be and TR made it their mission. And while doing so, their record went down while other teams within the org went up in missions.
